So often I would dwell on my mistakes and berate myself internally for being such a failure. I used to think it would be great to go back in time and un-make all the mistakes I’d made.
But I realised that I am here, right where I need to be, because of the mistakes I’ve made.
Once I shifted my perspective on all my ‘bad calls’ and ‘misdirections’ to see them for what they were – learning experiences – I felt grateful for them.
Now that may seem odd, and I’m sure there are some along the way that were simply bad calls (ahem, a perm is never a good idea).
But I truly believe that I have found this path for a reason.
Each time you make a decision about which direction to take, there is uncertainty about the outcome. You won’t know exactly how it will go until you try it.
So please stop trying to figure out the perfect answer, and then get cross with yourself when it doesn’t go the way you’d planned.
I’ve created products and services over the years in my business that were not a good fit for me. But they gave me the lesson I needed to work out how I really like to work.
I’ve had failed product launches that left me feeling totally inadequate. But they reminded me about the importance of messaging and marketing and telling people about something more than once.
I’ve signed up to coaching programs that were not right for me at that particular time and felt like a failure when I came out the other end with no real outcome. But I met some amazing people and can now go back and start to implement the things I learnt.
I’ve purchased online courses that I never completed. But I’m now very selective of what I purchase and understand my business and numbers much better than I did in the past.
I’ve hosted a workshop and only sold 1 ticket. But I went ahead and gave that one attendee a super focused session just on her business (she was thrilled).
I’m sharing these mistakes with you so you realise that we all make them. It’s how we deal with them and what we take away from them that counts.
You and your business will evolve. You will make mistakes. But I want you to get back up, dust off, take the lesson on board and keep moving forward.
You’ll gain a strength and perspective that will give you depth and opportunites you had never dreamt of.
Today is a new day! No matter what happened last week or last year, no more dwelling on past decisions. It’s time to embrace the now and all that it has to offer.
